Haunted Pregnancy

Posted on May 2, 2010

All of my life I have experienced strange occurrences but was always skeptical to classify them as, “paranormal.” The most activity I had encountered before now was during my childhood, at my old house in a suburb of Chicago. I would frequently see the shadows of children in my house, hear voices of people who were not there, and even had some invisible attacker strangle me (leaving hand prints around my neck) while I would try to drift to sleep.

All those events stopped once my family moved out of that house to another suburb, but have started again ever since I moved to Los Angeles with my boyfriend. Actually, they only began again after I found out I was pregnant back in late October, and have increased in frequency and intensity as the pregnancy progresses. This has not been an easy pregnancy. I have had biblical morning sickness that lasted much longer than usual, numerous trips to the hospital due to false labor pains and general clumsiness, and now apparently, spirits that are riled up by the whole affair.

When I first found out about the pregnancy, my boyfriend had to leave back to Chicago for a few weeks, as his mother fell gravely ill. Even though I have lived in this apartment alone for a month before he moved out here, I started to become very paranoid while he was gone. It felt as though someone was always right over my shoulder, watching what I was doing, and sometimes it seemed as though objects has shifted throughout the night while I was asleep. I kept these anxieties a secret from my boyfriend, as he is very levelheaded and certainly does not believe in anything paranormal.

Things remained tame for decent amount of time after he returned, but as my pregnancy moved farther along, the more activity I noticed. Most nights, I would be startled awake, yelling from what I assume were nightmares, but eventually these nightmares took a more distinct form. I started to wake up during the night and see strange figures pacing around my bed. One night in particular, a long, flowing, white figure, with black, empty, swirling eyes, entered our room from the living room and drift toward my side of the bed. Out of fear, I turned toward my boyfriend, who was fast asleep. As I lay there with my eyes plastered open, wondering what to do next, the figure glided slowly around the bed and toward my boyfriend, before vanishing in midair. That was not the last I saw of her.

As I began my second trimester, and started to show considerably, things became even more bizarre. Whenever I was alone in the apartment, or just alone in a certain room, doors, cabinets, and faucets seemed to take on a life of their own. When showering, the lights turned on and off by itself, the toilet lid slammed shut, and on a few occasions the toilet actually flushed on its own. The figures that once paced around my bed turned into voices that carry throughout the entire apartment – we have a loft upstairs and it seems like there are people playing tag on the stairs when we try to go to sleep at night.

Now, as I start the third trimester, activity has really picked up. I often find myself overcome with pregnant lady sadness, and this is when they spirits seem to come around the most. I will be lying in bed crying, or on the couch upset, when all of the sudden, one of my pregnancy books will fly off the shelf, or I will feel the weight of someone sitting right next to me, even though there is no one there.  At night the white entity has appeared to me again, only this time, she is not alone. It seems like when I wake up, my shirt is always lifted over my stomach, and these tall figures are staring at my baby bump. Sometimes I get this cold sensation, like a hand print on the outside of my belly, and the baby will start to kick or move around, almost like she is being made uncomfortable or scared. Almost like she is reacting just to them.

It seems like these entities are limited just to my place in Los Angeles. A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and I traveled to back to Chicago for our baby shower/babymoon for twelve days, and there was absolutely no activity during the entire trip. However, the most alarming thing happened this past weekend, while I was alone at the apartment and my boyfriend was on a three-day trip to Las Vegas. I was doing some laundry and carrying the sheets for the bed up the stairs to the second floor where the washer and dryer are kept. I was about halfway up the stairs when I thought I heard the sink in the kitchen start running. I paused for a moment, figured I would get the laundry upstairs before heading back down. When I started walking again, this cold air came over me and then out of nowhere I felt like I was being shoved from behind and fell down face forward on the stairs. I was pretty concerned, because I was not able to protect my pregnant belly from the fall that well as I was carrying all of the sheets and blankets for the bed. I went to Cedars – Sinai Labor and Delivery triage, where they observed me for a few hours, and lucky there was no damage done to the baby.

I am beginning to worry what the rest of the pregnancy will hold. I am over six months pregnant now, and the activity has only gotten more intense and more violent. I am really concerned that there is something here trying to hurt or steal my baby. Has anyone else ever experienced or heard of something like this happening during a pregnancy before? Can new life being created upset already existing life that has passed into another realm? Or is there something in this apartment trying to take my baby from me? Does anyone have any thoughts?
