20 years ago my family moved into an old farmhouse built in 1894. Within the first two weeks we were there I saw a glowing green figure move past our kitchen and go upstairs. The upstairs was in bad condition and we were just using two bedrooms downstairs. A short time later I bumped into what felt like a person, but no one was there.
We were told when we moved in that we could not use the room above the kitchen, which was separate from the upstairs and having it’s own stairway. It may sound crazy but after renting the house for a year we purchased the home.
We raised five children there and had many experiences. We heard breathing in our ears, been poked, had hair tugged, heard footsteps coming down the stairs and opening the door, saw shadowy figure walk past my office into our bedroom on several occasions, and I even took a swing at a figure one night by our bed. All of this was at times more than a little unnerving.
The most interesting was when I got up one night to go to the bathroom and a voice from my office said “BOO". It sounded like a woman’s voice in kind of a sarcastic manner.
But through all this we never felt threatened by it though we knew we were not alone.
We moved from the old farm house this past spring and our daughter and her family are living there now. Located in Rush county Indiana just outside of Arlington.
The previous owners said no one ever died in the house, but there was a plane crash in the field behind the house back in 1978 that killed seven USAC officials. I know this as fact because I grew up down the road and drove up to see what had happened the night of the crash

I am wondering why you were told you couldn’t use the room above the kitchen initially? I am sure a home that old, even without deaths within, holds many energies.
Perhaps the owner had things in storage in that room. Just a possibility. When I was about 7 or 8 we lived in a big house and had a similar thing – there was a room at the top of the stairs that was chained and locked and we weren’t supposed to go in there. I never knew why but it inspired a lot of ideas and even some nightmares for me.
I, too, wondered if that was the reason CT or something more. I should have stated that in the first place ….
They did have some old magazines stored in the closet upstairs, but nothing of real value. A few years after we purchased the house I remodeled the room into a bedroom for my oldest daughter. This is the room where we had heard footsteps coming down the stairs and the door at the bottom would open.
i want to say i heard the story before about the plane crash.what ever happened about the up stairs?since you couldnt go up there, and after you bought the house did you ever go up there or someother member of the family?i think something did happen but the person told you no-body did die.if i were you get the records from that house.you never know or your on a land thats haunted.thanks for the story.
I thought that too AnNa… once they bought the house I’d have gone upstairs FIRST THING….odd….I had friends that lived in a big old farmhouse and you couldn’t go upstairs into 1/2 the house as it was really dilapitated… but at least they knew WHY they shouldn’t go up there…it had two staircases too…very creepy place actually…
If I remember right the plane crash was around 1977 or 78. I really don’t believe that we were haunted by those victims. I really think it was a member of the Winslow family that had built the house originally. I think there was a residual haunting by a man and an intelligent haunting by a female. I know it would poke me in the back sometimes and I would say “I don’t have time to play with you today” and it would leave me alone.
i think if it was storage for the upstairs they should of just said it.i would of been curious if someone told me not to go upstairs but if they said it was just storage then that would be that.
met too, Anna
rules are rules when someone else owns a house! we had a bungalow here and was told not to go into the basement. there was nothing down there because we did look. the trap door was right in the middle of the kitchen floor!
maybe they didnt die just went missing and the room is just a they left it.andthey still see it as thier room.
I went upstairs on many occasions before we had purchased the house. They didn’t say I couldn’t go up there, they just said we couldn’t use the room above the kitchen for anything. It was just an old room with some plaster missing from the ceiling. The room had never been painted and had a small amount of the original whitewash on the walls. We heard a lot of noises up there, but my daughter said she never had any strange experiences when she slept up there. We all knew there was something with us in the house, but it was never a threatening presence.
funny that the ghost said boo, didnt think ghosts had a sense of humour.
ghosts are people without bodies. i’m sure they have a good time with us!
