As a child I experienced many odd things that always had me thinking. My first encounter with a ghost was when I was six years old. My mother had asked me to take the garbage out one night and I knew it was really dark back there, but I went anyway. I ran back there and threw the garbage in and as I walked back I noticed there was a shining bright light coming from the back house, which was vacant at the time, the light approached the window and as I looked closely it appeared to be a man that was on fire, but what was interesting about him was that he was grinning. I stood there frozen until I managed to move. I ran scared and confused that when I looked back I tripped and dislocated my ankle. Years later I can still vividly see that man or whatever it was.
All my life up to now I have had many unusual, peculiar and eerie experiences that fall under the category of “paranormal”. I have seen many ghosts both good and evil, demons, and even two gnomes. I have learned to live with my surroundings.
When my mother bought a house we were all very excited. The very first hour we spent there gave all of us something to think about. My stepfather was hanging up a sculpture we have of Jesus Christ. From the corner of my eye I saw a hunchbacked shadow move towards my stepfather. At the very same moment when he hung it, Christ’s face exploded. It actually exploded! We took it down as quick as possible. I decided not to say any of it to anyone.
About a month later I started hearing footsteps in the attic and my mother started seeing weird speckles of light on the ceiling of her room. My mom had told me that an old house always creeks, but then things got weirder and weirder. Someone or something started knocking on my window late at night but it was always three knocks no more. My dog would go crazy when he heard the knocks and he would begin barking at the chimney. My cat would start to hiss and scratch at everyone. However, I did get to see who was knocking at my window at night.
One night I was sitting on my bed when my dog came in and jumped on my bed. Just then I saw a round yellow orb hovering above the floor I had realized that my dog was looking at it too. When I turned around I saw an old man wearing a top hat. His eyes were dark and his presence was pure evil. Afterwards I began to see him more often. He started doing bad things to me and my family that we got to the point that we had to move.
The day we moved I stared back into the empty house and to no surprise he was standing by the window looking back at us with those dark eyes of his. To this day we speak of it but afterwards we get chills… well at least I do. We never went back to that house again. The house alone makes you feel tired and drained. There was always an overwhelming sense of sadness. I am glad we moved.

Wonderful story!!
Wow, how scary that is. I wish you would have told more about what the old man did.
I’m glad you are out of there!
yikes, that’s scary!! you and your family must be really sensitive to the “paranormal”.
what do you mean he would do mean things to you and your family, like what?
wonder about the history that took place at your old house.
cool story, and yes, glad you got out of there too!
I knew I should of added details. When my nephews stayed at my house they told me he would throw things at them while they were trying to sleep. It was creepy because I kept candles lit in my room and he would knock them down. We knew it was him because he had a strong presence sort of evil in a way. Our house was always dark. Other than that he would break dishes and trip my brothers in the hallway. p.s. thanks for liking my story. I never went back there.
Scary! Thanks for sharing.
Kitty – thanks for answering my question. i’m sorry that happened to your family. sheesh, tripping your brothers and throwing things at your nephews when they’d sleep. gosh, such a meanie!!!!
such a creepy experience!
hope that you no longer experience those things in your new house…
‘nyway, tnx for sharing…
You know, I’m glad you mentioned gnomes in your story…
A good friend of mine told me a story about his how his niece and nephew would be visited by a gnome-like creature.
In a nutshell here is the story….
His niece and nephew shared a bedroom together when they were 6 and 7. One night, a “little green man” (later described as a gnome) opened the window to their bedroom waking them up. The gnome ask if they would play with him, and they did. This went on for a while. The mother would hear them playing, and yell at them to go to bed. They listened, but the gnome kept demanding that they play with him. The gnome said “If you don’t play with me, I will hurt your mommy and daddy”. So they would cry, and continue to do what the gnome wanted. The children of course told their mother, but the mother just blew it off. It wasn’t until a month of the children begging not to sleep in their room that the mother decided, something was seriously wrong. She decided to relocate. After the move everything was fine. My friend says his neice and nephew are afraid to tell the story, that when asked, they get the chills.
No prob. melissa. That is a scary story! nomes usually appear to children when they are alone. Im mexican and there are lots of stories about nomes and leprachauns..ghost and things of that nature. Its said that if the children refuse to do anything they ask they eat their souls. Creepy and weird but thats what they said. There are many stories like that…they say that smurfs are evil too. In spanish they are called pitufos. Im glad the kids are ok..but yea..they are CREEPY! I saw two of them but my friend Karen saw it too. They threw rocks at us from the top tree and we actually never said anything until now. They had souless expressions and they were greenish brown but they had hat things. Idk i dnt remember we just ran!
i feel you about the picture part…
had somewhat the same experience more than once. never looked at religious idols the same way ever again.
they must have been very powerful to make a statue explode! i’ve heard of gnomes appearing and don’t know much about them but as you can tell i love trolls. thanks for the very creepy stories and i hope your home stays peaceful!!
When you saw the man on fire, did you think to call 911? If someone is burning that is the first thing I would have done. When you saw the man, did you call the police? My first thought would be that some creep is peeping through my windows. It’s odd in many of these stories people automatically assume waht there seeing is a spirit, most people do not think like that, it makes me wonder if these aren’t just stories.
@ JW.. The man was a ghost and he wasnt peeping through my window. I was looking through the window of the empty house. Even if he was really on fire why would he stop and look at me and not say a word? I know what he was and I may have been a little girl but I know what I saw.
