Ghost In Mamaw’s Playroom

May 8, 2008

My dad’s side of the family lives in east Tennessee. We go up there all the time whether it is for birthdays, Christmas, or some kind of celebration and we have a rather large family. This paranormal encounter happened when I was around the age of 12 or 13, but I am now 20. I have eight cousins and we range in age from 8-26. There are five of us that are fairly close in age and always got away from everyone and did our own thing.

I have always been a little weary about the playroom in the back of the house and that’s where we always slept when we stayed at our grandparents. Well, this particular day I felt a weird presence in that room and kinda stayed away from it. Some of my cousins wanted to go in the playroom and tell ghost stories… (I thought great…) but I went ahead and followed them thinking everything would be okay.

All five of us sat in the middle of the floor with a big blanket on top of us, and we were holding hands and we all sat on the blanket so no one could tap on a shoulder or something and scare us. We turned off the light and shut the door before all of this.

So, we are sitting there telling ghost stories and I’m already kind of spooked but I feel a light tap on my shoulder but I just brushed it off thinking its just my mind wondering and trying to freak me out. A few minutes later I start telling my own ghost story and I began feeling some kind of presence so I shut up and told someone else to go ahead. They wanted to hear the rest of my story so I continued, but shortly after I continued with my story I felt a scratch on my back, like a fingernail. I stopped talking and asked my two cousins on both sides of me if they scratched my back trying to play a prank on me, forgetting we were all holding hands. We all sat there for a few minutes trying to get someone to get out from under the blanket and turn on the light.

Finally, I jumped up, switched on the light and lifted the back of my shirt. There was a scratch about an inch and a half long on my back. I ran into the living room where everyone was and told them what we were doing and what happened, but of course telling that to a bunch of adults is going to be hard to convince them. They told us to calm down and stop picking on each other.

So, later that night, we stayed at my mamaw’s house and ended up staying in the playroom which I dreaded after the incident that afternoon. I was laying in the floor trying not to think about it. In the playroom there is a closet that has white sliding wood doors that have always creeped me out and still do to this day. I was watching the doors and they were closed.

I had to get up and go use the bathroom and when I came back the doors were both halfway open. I looked at my cousins and they hadn’t moved an inch and were sound asleep. I closed the doors back and tried to ignore it and fell back asleep. The next morning I woke up and noticed the doors opened again. I asked anybody if they happened to pull something out of the closet but they claimed they had no part in it. I don’t know what was going on in the playroom that day but I still think about it to this day visiting my grandparents.
