Ghost In A New House

Posted on June 23, 2009

Ghost in a new house? How could that be? and how come nobody believes me?

Hello. My name is Kat. My family and I moved to our house about 5 years ago.  For the first 2 years it seemed like the house was perfectly normal, but the summer of my ninth grade year, strange things began to happen.

The first strange occurrence was when I was alone in the house on the computer by our guest room.  It was around 4 in the morning and I was about to go to sleep so I decided that I would go to the restroom beforehand.  As I made my way to the bathroom, I kept hearing strange noises coming from the attic.  (the attic is right above the door of the bathroom.. and the bathroom, attic door, and guest bedroom are all within 7 feet of each other.)  The noises sounded like footsteps right above my head.  I looked up, and they started to get louder.  then all of the sudden they stopped.  there was nobody home at the time as I said and there is no way anyone can get up into the attic because it is blocked off by a bookcase.  and it didn’t sound like a rat.  I’ve thought of all the possibilities of what it could be. I never heard it again after that night, but there were other strange occurrences.

I was taking a bath one night and my cat decided to follow me in for some reason (he never does this).  I was relaxed in the tub and I looked over at my cat.  He looked very odd.  He kept following something with his eyes…. something I couldn’t see.  I thought it might be a bug so I just disregarded it…  but then all of the sudden… there was a small splash in the water that I was in… kind of like if you put your hand in water really quick and then take it out.  I was completely still at the time and my cat was all the way on the other side of the bathroom.  It scared the crap out of me. That never happened again either, but every night, I consistently have this very strong feeling that someone is watching me from the guest bedroom – every night  and it’s not in any other part of the house, only that room.

My friends and my mom have had some other experiences as well. One time my best friend was sleeping over.  I had fallen asleep and she was on the computer.  It was around 4 in the morning and she told me that she heard footsteps coming from downstairs. They sounded as if they were going up the stairs. She thought it was my dad because he’s a big guy and they were heavy footsteps.  She disregarded it until nobody showed up at the top of the stairs. Then she decided to go see where he went.  Once she got down the stairs, she went to my parents room… my dad was fast asleep, snoring and nobody else was up in the house. My cat was asleep at the foot of the bed. Also, my ex boyfriend was on the computer and heard a heartbeat coming out of the wall that was right in front of him. On the other side of that wall is the guest bedroom.

The last occurrence happened about 6 months ago.  My mom and I were downstairs watching TV and we heard a faint “hello.”  We didn’t know where it was coming from. We thought it might be from the TV, so we muted it. We heard the “hello” again.  It freaked me out. We never heard it again and my mom still doesn’t believe me even though she heard it!

Nobody in this house believes me except the friends that have actually had experiences. My house is brand new, well it was new when we bought it, nobody lived in it. The only thing I can think of that it could be is my grandmother.  She had cancer and stayed in the guest bedroom before she died and I believe we kept the ashes in that room for about a month.

Well, I believe you. I know how it feels to have people look at you like your crazy- even when they have experienced the spiritual activity themselves! Just keep your head up and know that your not the only person to have this happen to them.

Just because a house is new doesn’t mean it can’t be haunted. Often or not, something could have happened on the land or the surrounding area to cause the haunting, so in turn, your house became haunted. Another solution could be that you yourself or someone else in the family has attracted the spirit into the house. Most likely you yourself did or your mother and it’s attracted to you and her seeing as how you both get all of the paranormal activity going on around you two.
I myself live in a house that was relatively new when my family rented it and we never had an issue with anything paranormal when we first moved in. It wasn’t until maybe a few years later that we started hearing footsteps upstairs and shadows behind us downstairs. My house is situated next to a lake and there was actually a train accident where the train slipped off the tracks and into the lake itself, so a lot of people drowned. There was also a lady who was drowned in the lake along with her cat. It’s possible the spirits took up residence in our home because they wanted to or they saw us as beacons of light. Basically, they see the light as the afterlife or for a way for them to get help because most of the time, people who have this light have psychic abilities and therefore experience all of the paranormal activity because they are sensitive to it. Also, the light could just be comforting to them and they may feel at home around it.
    Good Luck.

Could have been something there before the house was built. Sounds like grandma, you may need to tell her she needs to move on.

i believe you!! my bedroom is in the cellar and the cellar is haunted, my mum now believes me as she heard the sound of footsteps and then something heavy being dragged whilst she was ironing in the cellar alone. i still hear footsteps near my bed at night – it freaks me out!! also, it might not be ur house that is haunted, my house is fairly new and it all depends on what it was built upon, ghosts can haunts areas aswell as buildings.

I think I believe you, Because I believe in ghosts. If you want to get out of those, creepy things. There is only one thing you can do. Don’t take me wrong. Because, when ever i pray to my GOD(I’m a Muslim) everything goes fine. Nothing is wrong. Just pray once and see whether you can get off this ghost…

Just because its a new house doesn’t mean a ghost hasn’t been attracted and found itself a new home too! Ghosts can be attracted to people a bit like a lighthouse – they zone in. It doesn’t appear to mean any harm and would appear to have been polite and even said ” hello! “. It has even tried to get your attention and communicate. Unfortunately, such visitors are not always welcome even if polite, particularly if you are scared or not coping. It could be your grandmother, as she would gravitate to your family and not necessarily to a fixed place. You just need to decide how comfortable you are with the situation and if you can handle it or would you want your visitor to move on and then if you want them to leave look at having the place saged.

Remember “things” can be haunted too. For instance if your family has any antiques around the house, spirits can attach themselves to objects and go wherever that object goes. But in all actuality I do not believe in ghosts. I am a Christian and believe that once you die you either go to heaven or hell; no in between. I do however believe that there are demons and they can pose as “ghosts” and do whatever they need to do in order to distract you from living a life focused towards God. Just pray and ask God for protection and they can do you no harm.

  14. trolldoll1681 says:

actually the bible says that when we die, we rest until christ comes to rule the earth. that’s what my mom believed. we don’t go anywhere until the end. but i’m not convinced if there’s such overwhelming evidence of “ghosts”.
