Two years ago while visiting a friend in Maine, I rented an old guest house near his property. Unable to stay in his home at the time because of heating issues that were in a state of being repaired, I decided to rent this guest house so I would not be in the way.
The first night of my visit was wonderful. We had a marvelous dinner, sat together and reminisced, looking at old family photos, and drinking wine in front of a blazing fireplace. I had not been so relaxed in years.
As time passed, it began to get rather late, so I decided to retire to my rental, wishing my friend goodnight. As I put on my coat and hat, he also began to do the same. I asked where he was going at that hour, being that it was nearing midnight, and he remarked that he wanted to see me home safely, since it was only a short distance from his own. I told him I did not need to be escorted, and would be fine. But, he persisted. So, out into the cold and darkness we went.
We had not gone a good 100 feet, when it started. A low, constant cry. It was not far behind us. The cry of a little girl, no more than five or six, right behind us. I know my friend heard it too, although he pretended not to hear, however, I could tell by the look on his face, and the haltingly manner in which he carried his body, that he too had heard the “crying girl”.
Upon reaching my door, my friend, decided he would need a warm cup of tea in order to man the harsh, wind that had begun to kick up outside. Knowing that he was afraid, I decided to go along with it, to avoid embarrassing him.
After a few minutes I raised the subject of the crying sounds that had followed us to the guest house. At first, he hesitated to answer, and then begun to weep and shake, openly. He told me that he heard… and saw her before… the crying girl.
One night, he saw her near his front window, but as he moved closer, she waved and began to move “through” the outside wall, but faded away in the process.
Rather than attempt to put on a show of reserve, or bravery, I decided to end our discoveries. This may not be the scariest situation here, but if you were there, you’d think differently.

That would be rather weird but for me that would scare me a little
