During the summer of 2009, five friends and I rented out a cottage for one week in Ontario, on the Bruce Peninsula to be specific. Small, old, rustic, yet very cozy and homely this cottage was.
Something about sleeping in the bedroom had put me off. I wasn’t entirely comfortable with it; Almost as if something was pulling me to the main living room to sleep on the couch.
On my first night, I was having a hard time getting comfortable and falling asleep. When I finally drifted into a light sleep I was stunned with a growling noise sounding as if it were right by my ear. I turned my body up and twisted my head around to see on the couch behind me was a creature of some sort, something you would only see in a movie. It was frail, sort of had the stature of an old man, almost looked as if ‘it’ were drenched in swamp sludge, staring at me and slowly raising it’s hand pointing at me. I was jaw-dropped in disbelief. I shook my head, stood up, looked back and it was gone. I then turned on all the lights and slept just fine after that.
The next day, I didn’t mention anything to anyone, I sort of tried to dismiss it myself as a dream but I know I was awake, and I know it was there. The following night I decided I’d sleep with the TV and a lamp on, just for my own comfort. Don’t ask me why I didn’t choose to shack up with one of my friends, I still felt the bedrooms to be quite uninviting (As if the main living room was inviting!).
The door to the back porch came right into the main living room and there was nothing covering the all glass door. Not a curtain, no blinds, nothing. So at night there was this pitch black window peering right out onto the lake. And I just always had this feeling of something watching me through this window. Sure enough, that night I peered up to look at it, as much as I didn’t want to, and noticed the porch light flicker quite a few times. I turned on all the living room and kitchen lights, went to sleep eventually and the next five nights were incident-free.
I’ve yet to mention a thing to anyone I went with, most of them being skeptics. Anyhow, that’s my story.
I tried to research possible happenings/tragedies/events that had happened there and only came across one story. A young woman went missing, in the 80′s or 90′s I believe, and her body was found in a ditch to the side of the county road which brought us to our cottage. Not implying this was her, but I found it to be almost equally eerie as my personal experience in this cottage. Lovely cottage but can’t say I’d ever go back.
