A Dream of my Sisters Near Death in Viet Nam

Posted on October 18, 2009

Hello, I wanted to share with everyone a dream that I had of my older sister, back when I was a teenager, during the mid 70s.

My sister is retired now, but she had served many years with the Civil Service as a government employee. She had worked for the Navy, Army and Air Force during her 35 years of service. During her time working with the Army, she had always dreamed of going overseas to the orient, which she finally did, when I was around 14 years old. She was so excited! She first went over to Korea, and then she was transferred to Viet Nam several years later. While in Viet Nam, my sister was there, during the Fall of Saigon. Due to security reasons, she wasn’t able to write or call us about what was going on, too often. But, my family and I always followed the news all the time on the television.

A month before she came home to the States, my sister and one of her friends from the Attaché Office in the American Embassy, where she worked (she was the Administrative Assistant for the General of the Attaché Office), had went to see a Palm Reader. The Palm Reader told my sister that she had a past, present, and a future. The Palm Reader then told my sister’s friend that SHE had a past and a present, but, NO future. Both my sister and her friend just laughed it off and went on their way.

About two weeks before my sister came home, I had this terrifying dream of her one night. I woke up in a cold sweat! I never told anyone for the longest time of my dream, and I have NEVER mentioned it to my sister, even to this day! I had dreamt that my sister was sitting in a seat, on a  passenger jet airliner. She had flames all around her, and she had the look of terror and fear on her face, along with tears rolling down her cheeks. She was grabbing the arm rests of the seat so hard, that her knuckles were very white. All of a sudden, I woke up and started crying, and prayed to the Good Lord to please protect my sister and bring her home safely.

A week later, we had heard on the news that during the Fall of Saigon, when both the military and civilians were attempting to get out of the country, a large passenger jet had taken off on a military Base, and was immediately shot down and crashed. This was known as the “Baby Flight”, well at least my sister had referred to it as such. On this flight, there were a lot of small children who were from an orphanage, and a large portion of my sister’s co-workers who had worked with her in the Attaché office.

On that terrifying day, my sister lost a lot of her friends in that crash. A good portion of the children had survived, thank the Good Lord, but, sadly, only a couple of the adults survived. One of those who had died on that flight, was my sister’s friend, who was told by the Palm Reader that she had a past, present, but no future.

After everything was over with, and my sister finally got home safely (a couple of days after the “Baby Flight”  disaster, my sister had sent my mother a telegram saying that both her and Cindy (her cat) were safe onboard an aircraft carrier and are on their way to Hawaii for debriefing, and that she would be sending Cindy home first, and she would follow later.

After my sister finally got home, she was able to tell us what happened on that day. She told us that she, too, was suppose to be on that “Baby Flight”, but, at the last minute the General asked her to stay back and help him destroy files, office equipment, and such. That he would make sure both her and Cindy had a seat on his helicopter (which almost didn’t get over this large fence during take off… which is a totally different story all together).

My sister was very upset that she had lost nearly all her fellow co-workers, especially her good friend who was told that she had no future. It took my sister a long time to get over this terrible experience. Even to this day, she has a difficult time talking about it and about the friends that she had lost. Sometimes, still, she’ll have terrible dreams and will walk up screaming.

When I heard about my sister’s experience, and that she was almost on that flight as well, I had put two and two together. That I must of had a terrifying look into the future of what might possibly happen to my sister, if the General hadn’t needed her to stay behind and help destroy things. I thank the Good Lord (and the General) all the time for sparing my sister’s life on that day.

Thank you for allowing me to share my story with you.

    Hi Beth,

Yes, I am so glad that my sister did not get on that flight! I’m so sorry that she lost most of her friends from her office, though. That was very sad. Hey, you love Pokemon!! I love Pokemon too. He’s one of my favorite Japanese characters, along with Doriman (I think that’s the way to spell it. It’s been along time) the blue and white mechanical cat from the furture with no ears. Have you ever heard of him? Thank you for your nice comment and have a great evening.

Hi Melissa! Hey, how are you doing? Thank you for your nice comments. My sister is doing fine, thank you for asking. In fact, I just received an email from her today, after getting home from work. She was telling me how her cat, “Miss Kitty” ATE her fifty dollar prize fish from the fish tank!! I wrote her back and told her that at least “Miss Kitty” has good, but, expensive, taste LOL! You have a great evening my friend!
